Comments

James Wenong

Professor Bate Besong,

In a Developed Country, this article will ruin you in a defamation law suit, specifically looking at your claim that Dr. Njeuma has never published.

Her attorneys would clean you out. It would also be presumed that your piece cast public aspersions on the Experimental Cell Research Journal (ECRJ).

The ECRJ is a coveted scientific publication, now owned by the Elsevier publishing house. The young Dr. Njeuma back in 1970 was already working on cell research and penetrating key publishing houses.

Her politics may be stained but she deserves credit for her early publications. Her recent submission about anaemic funding for UB was no music to Yaounde either. It showed that the Lady has a sharp intellect.

James Wenong

JB Samba

Mr. James Wenong:
Mark you that BB talked of 'referenced' articles. He did not say that Njeuma has not published. A scientific article is weighted by the number of times it is referenced by other authors. For example, do a search for V.P.K. Titanji and S.M.N. Efange and you will see the number of referenced articles these two University Dons can boast of. As BB said in his article, Njeuma has no referenced article to her credit. She might have published one or two articles, it doesn't have any impact on science as no other author has referenced those two articles.

Take note that BB has always been a pain in the ass for Njeuma.

Academic circles tend to be close-nitched - I will like to point out to you that each era in science development has it's own peculiarities. There are people in Njeuma's era who have referenced articles to their credit even in the area of cell mitosis that Njeuma worked on.

Why do you think Njeuma's articles are not referenced anywhere even in her own era (nitch)? The answer is simple, "JUST GOOD STANDARD ENGLISH WITH ABSOLUTELY NO SUBSTANCE IN IT."

I understand that when you don't know much about somebody, you can't comment fairly on that person. You definitely don't know who BB is.

Uche Eze Nkatta Idika

Mr.James Wenong, there is a clear cut dichotomy between publication and haven been referenced. Do your home work well and you will understand what I am saying. If people don't make reference to you, it means your work hasn't got any relevance to the supposed sphere.

BB, Your monumental strides are eloquent testimonies of the vision you have for the lone anglosaxon university in Cameroon. You remain a source of succour and inspiration to many.
God will reward your sacrificial and unrellented efforts for the Cameroonian populace.

Virtually Yours
Uche Eze Nkatta Idika, B.Sc (Hons) Pol.Sc. UB

Mr wenong,
Intellectuals advance knowledge by adding something new to it. this is done throgh researc (especially for those of them who claim to be in the pure sciences). She has been Dr for 3 decades or so.Younger Dr's have obtained doctorates before her. what else do we want from reality?

Abangma Peter

Only a fool will fail to realize that Dr. Njeuma does not and cannot have 30 years worth of published material because she has spent the last 30 years not as a lecturer or researcher, but as a civil servant and administrator.

For those who do not know, Dr. Njeuma was already one of the lead lecturers at the University of Yaounde at age 33, before she was made a minister.

So her publishing history is no different from academics around the world who ended up in politics, business or the civil service; Henry Kissinger's prolific writing career came to a screeching halt when he joined the Nixon administration and only picked up when he left government. Today, Condi Rice, one of the leading experts on soviet history and politics has not published a single page on this subject since she joined the bush administration five years ago. Does it mean she is a failure? No, it simply means she has other equally important things to do at this time.

So whatever Dr. Njeuma's shortcomings, it is disingenuous and even hypocritical, to take her to task for not carrying out academic research and publishing research while serving as a minister and university administrator. Her job at MINEDUC, ASTI and UB was far more important that writing obscure academic pieces read by a handful of equally obscurantist academics.

BB, you missed the mark on this one..

Well Guys
writing is all about having something to offer, so if you have nothing to offer you will definitely have nothing to write. Bb it is actually because she has nothing to to offer. she is just an empty vessel.
